A few words about the lost village
This hamlet is in the municipality of Competa.
However, it is located next to Frigiliana in the mountains of Tejeda and Almijara. It is known as the Lost Village!
El Acebuchal is located in Axarquia in the province of Malaga.
The incredible history of El Acebuchal
Originally this village was for centuries a resting place and meeting point for merchants who transported their goods between the Costa del Sol and Granada. The only activity of the village was the production of coal and limestone.
In 1949, it was a tragedy for its inhabitants: Franco sent the Civil Guard to close the village and empty it of its inhabitants. Franco suspects that the inhabitants are hiding republican rebels who continue to oppose Franco’s regime.
This hamlet has been forgotten for 50 years
Only twenty years ago, in 1998, a man, Antonio ‘El zumbo’, who had family in this village decided to return to live there with his wife. They rebuilt a few houses and opened an inn. They will bring the village back to life.
It is now largely restored, although there are still some houses to be restored.
This village, hidden in the mountains, where silence reigns, offers a very special atmosphere and sensation, in addition to its beauty. It is a complete change of scenery and a place of rest for hikers and nature lovers.
The walks and hiking trails around the lost village El Acebuchal
There are many walks around the hamlet.
However, 4km from the hamlet you will find one of the most beautiful hikes in the Axarquia-Costa del Sol.
This hike ends with an incredible waterfall of 15-20 metres in height. This is the rio Patamalara hike.
It is less well known than the Rio Chillar walk but just as wonderful.
