A few words about the hike in Canillas de Aceituno
The El Saltillo hike is not a hike like the others. It is about 15 km long, for the most courageous. It connects Canillas de Aceituno to the village of Sedella.
The hike is a very beautiful hike in the province of Málaga, in Axarquia. It is of medium-high level.
You can also turn back at any time. The hike is partly along an acequia (irrigation path)
We cross the 3rd longest hanging bridge in Spain in a splendid landscape.
This walk is at the foot of the Maroma, the highest mountain in the province of Málaga with an altitude of 2068 metres.8 mètres.
It was opened in September 2020, and is known as the Caminito del Rey de la Axarquia. Below is the video that was shown at the opening of this hike:
Equipment for the hike
To do it: a good pair of shoes and walking sticks for those who want more security.

What you can see on the El Saltillo walk
This “walk” offers views of the Maroma:
… and the sea.
The nature is everywhere omnipresent…
During the hike you can also see several ravines.
The crossing of the suspension bridge is a highlight of the hike. It is also often the point of return to Canillas de Aceituno.
The rules for this hike
We take a small backpack with food and drink, as well as a bag to keep all the rubbish, so as not to leave anything in nature.
For safety, and even if there are more than 300 days of sunshine per year, we check that there has been no rain in the previous days. The ground could be slippery.
Ideally, we come with walking sticks. The access to the hanging bridge is via a path with a significant difference in altitude.
