A few words about Ronda
Ronda is a beautiful town set atop a mountain in the province of Málaga. Ronda overlooks a steep gorge (Tajo), over 100 metres high. Below, the River Guadalevin flows through the town.
Ronda is renowned for its beauty and its history, which is closely linked to the Andalusian bandoleros.
Since this period of banditry in the 19th century, Ronda has become famous, as has the entire Serrania de Ronda, for its landscapes and history, making it an ideal romantic getaway.
Dates of the Ronda Fair
Here are the dates of the Fair: from 6 to 9 June 2024.
The origins of the Ronda Fair
This Feria – La Real Feria de Ronda – is a very old one. It dates back to 1509, and was originally a simple livestock fair.
In the 19th century, it was at its most splendid and became a meeting point for European and North American travellers in search of adventure. Andalusian banditry was at its height.
The Ronda Romántica event and festivities are now part of the Feria and aim to recreate that historic atmosphere, with the typical costumes and markets that were held in those days.
Many artists and writers have come to Ronda and fallen in love with the city. Here are just a few of the most famous who have paid tribute to the town: Ernest Hemingway, Prosper Mérimée, Rainer Maria Rilke, Orson Welles, Gabriel Garcia Lorca, etc.
