A few words about Competa and the festival
Competa is a wonderful white village in Axarquia, in the province of Malaga.

This fiesta, the noche del vino in Competa, is very popular and worth spending the day in the morning.
It is a joyful celebration of wine, vines and grapes, with many events around this theme, such as a demonstration of grape crushing with the feet (la pisa), as it was done in the past.
After the pisa, the bunches of grapes are collected to be put in a press to obtain a second juice.
Historically, wines made from crushed grapes were better than those made from the grapes that were then pressed.
Here is the programme for the Wine Festival in Competa in 2024
Grape growing is still very widespread in Axarquia, and produces some of the best wines in Andalusia. This is especially true of wines produced from the Muscatel grape variety.
The evening is usually devoted to a show of traditional dance and music such as the Verdiales or fandangos.
This is an opportunity to witness traditional folklore: the fandangos of Competa.
However, during the day, there are also many shows.
Every year, you can attend a superb flamenco show.
Not to be missed, as the show is of high quality!
The daytime shows are held in the Grape harvest Square – Plaza de la Vendimia – !
In the same square, at 2pm, a meal is offered to all visitors, consisting of migas and salad!
In the afternoon, there are always many people to celebrate the festival!
